A Review on Phytochemicals from Some Medicinal Plants of Bangladesh

Natural products, especially those derived from higher plants, have attracted scientists ancient time because of their potential therapeutic values. Drug development natural sources showed that products or product-derived drugs comprised about 28% all new chemical entities launched to the market. These are originated terrestrial microbes, marine organisms, etc. However, until recently an insignificant part plants has been scientifically evaluated for medicinal properties. Bangladesh is a rich repository many which widely used in Ayurvedic, Unani, herbal and other traditional systems medicines. In our laboratory, we extensively investigated over 48 several microbial strains resulted isolation characterization 133 compounds, including 33 molecules. Terpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids glycosides were major classes constituents. The crude extractives purified molecules demonstrated statistically significant inhibition growth microorganisms. On hand, usnic acid obtained lichen, Parmelia kamtschandalis, even better as compared standard antimicrobial agents, whereas dehydroaltenusin extracted Streptomyces sp. exhibited HIV-inhibitory activity.
